(mentor) Faculty Architecture Department Building Technology Date 2010-06-25 Abstract This paper introduces a parametric structural design tool to calculate and visualize the results for thin plates loaded out-off plane. This is done by using the membrane analogy for the split part of the classic 4th order partial differential equation for thin plates expressed in the reduced sum of the bending moments (M) and the “rain flow analogy” for the shear force flow on the M-hill. This method is developed to increase the qualitative insight into the structural behaviour of thin plates.
