It is a dry and warm wind which is able to transport large dust plumes. This study aims to get insight in possible triggers that may have influence on the harmattan season itself. To find a seasonal predictor which can predict the intensity of the next harmattan season, historical data is analyzed. Changes in de Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone seem to have a significant influence on the harmattan season.
