Abstract

Wiel Arets is a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts. He established Wiel Arets Architects in 1983 after graduating from the Eindhoven University of Technology. The dean of the Berlage Institute from 1995–2002, until 2009, Arets also held the Berlage chair at Delft University of Technology. In addition to his involvement with the Berlage, Arets has taught at Washington University in St. Louis, the Architectural Association in London, Columbia University, the Cooper Union, and the Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna. Since 2003, he has been a member of the advisory board at Princeton University. Notable design work includes the Academy for Arts and Architecture in Maastricht and the headquarters of the azl pension fund in Heerlen.
