(mentor) Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences Department Hydraulic Engineering Programme Offshore engineering Date 1983-11-01 Abstract The hydrodynamic coefficients of a sand-roughened horizontal cylinder have been determined for various values of the relative roughness and relative gap height between the cylinder and the plane boundary. The Morison equation was used to describe the inline force signal. The transverse force was analysed with respect to the peak values during a wave cycle towards and away from the bottom. Results indicate an increase of drag coefficient Cd, inertia coefficient Cm and lift coefficients Cl-a and Cl-t in case of decreasing relative gap height. The hydrodynamic coefficients were not strongly influenced by the cylinders relative roughness.
