This framework was applied to identify the relevant factors in the case of phosphorus recovery in form of struvite from municipal wastewater. The following eleven factors were deemed to be relevant by experts:‘financial strength’, ‘technological superiority’, ‘compatibility’, ‘complementary goods’, ‘pricing strategy’, ‘appropriability strategy’, ‘market communications’, ‘financial support’, ‘agenda setting’, ‘current installed base’ and ‘suppliers’. To assess the importance of the identified factors, a Best Worst Method was applied from which it could be concluded that the factors ‘technological superiority’ and ‘compatibility’ were seen as most important by the experts.
