Abstract

The Summer Introduction Programme 2015 welcomes about 1600 international students who follow an obligatory programme. Throughout a week of project work students design a water rocket and an academic poster, get familiarized with the Delft study method, and working in multicultural groups.

In our project team, Zaandvoort 2, we designed a water rocket based on the following design principle: combining engineering theory and aesthetics to build a balanced, stable and sustainable rocket. Innovative solution was having two parachutes and big fins to provide a smooth landing. Indeed, first parachute is the deployment system of the second. Sustainability was considered with using the least material possible and all materials are recyclable. We learnt how to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary team from this project that will be useful in our studies.
