Abstract

Jürgen Mayer H. is the founder and owner of an interdisciplinary studio for architecture, communication, and new technology in Berlin. His works have received awards including the Mies van der Rohe Emerging Architect Prize in 2003 and the 2005 Holcim Award, Bronze Europe. His works have been published and exhibited worldwide and are part of numerous collections including that of the MoMA New York and the MoMA San Francisco. Furthermore, since 1996 Jürgen Mayer H. has engaged in teaching assignments at Harvard University's GSD, the Architectural Association London, and Columbia University in New York.

The use of interactive media and responsive materials play a central role in his work. Current projects are the Stadthaus in Scharnhauser Park, Ostfildern; a new cafeteria building for the University of Karlsruhe; and Metropol Parasol—the new design for the Plaza de la Encarnacion in Seville, the model of which was presented by The Design Annual, 2006. Jürgen Mayer H. is interested in creating spaces ranging in scale from installations to urban planning designs. With his team he prepares and implements projects in which a multidisciplinary spatial research on the relationship between body, nature, and technology is expressed.
