The model can be used for evaluation of hole cleaning performance. The model accounts for the time-dependent effect of mud gelling (thixotropy). The model is validated with measurements from a drilling operation. Combined with field measurements, application of the model could aid in early detection of downhole effects and events, which will help to prevent costly drilling problems like borehole collapse and stuck pipe.
