Abstract

The Summer Introduction Programme 2015 welcomes about 1600 international students who follow an obligatory programme. Throughout a week of project work students design a water rocket and an academic poster, get familiarized with the Delft study method, and working in multicultural groups.

In our project team, Rotterdam 2, we designed a water rocket which called SYMPHONY. The aim was to keep it flying as long as possible. In order to overcome three main challenges that we find out (stability, propulsion and landing system) we split the team into three groups to make the process highly efficient. After research we have gathered all information and build up the rocket together.

Our main innovation is the parachute storage. To keep the rocket in the air longer we needed to make the parachute as large as possible. Additionally, to guarantee the parachute quick deployment we designed an innovative spacious housing stage which divides into two parts to release the parachute.

We learnt how to work together, share ideas and find the best solution. Teamwork project was a valuable experience to start and it will be useful during academic period.
