Booy, N. Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences Department Hydraulic Engineering Date 1969-03-24 Abstract The designing engineer often comes across the economic decision problem in which the "benefit" of a higher design criterion must be weighed against the "cost". Several methods have been developed to deal with this optimization problem; none of them, however, offer the possibility of introducing the appropriate considerations of a general policy of investment. Therefore this paper presents a solution for maximizing the total benefits of the total amount of investments made by one financier.
