Faculty Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science Department Software Computer Technology Date 2012-12-31 Abstract In order to determine whether there is a gap between the current state-of-the-practice and state-of-the-art in software engineering, we performed a broad survey among Dutch software producing organizations. Our survey covers aspects of the software engineering cycle ranging from requirements engineering, over design and implementation to testing. From our analysis of the data that we have obtained from our 99 respondents, we extracted 22 interesting observations, some representing unexpected insights from an academic point of view. From these observations, we have identified a number of avenues for future research.
