Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences Department Hydraulic Engineering Date 2011-09-05 Abstract This paper presents the development of a semi-probabilistic method for armour layer design of rubble mound breakwaters, which is based on the use of safety factors. The objective is to introduce an approach that is both attractive to designers and sufficiently reliable when a high degree of uncertainty is involved in the design process. The main focus of the analysis is the calibration and appropriate use of the safety factors, which is the key element for a reliable result.
