Abstract

Douglas Gauthier is the principal of Gauthier Architects, a New York-based architecture firm focusing on residential, commercial and cultural design and research projects. Before starting Gauthier Architects in 2007, he was a founding partner in 1998 of SYSTEMarchitects where he practiced for nine years. Prior to that, he collaborated with Barkow Leibinger Architects from 1995–1998 on a comissioned school and day-care center in Berlin. Gauthier has over twenty years of professional experience in architecture. His work during this time has taken him from San Francisco, where he was the project architect for the San Jose Repertory Theater for Holt Hinshaw Jones, to the former Eastern Bloc, where he researched defunct armament factories, to France where he was the project architect for Le Fresnoy Mediateque and Film School for Bernard Tschumi Architects, to Australia, where he built a BURST* hosue prototype later recomissioned by the Museum of Modern Art, to his present base in New York.
