(mentor) Faculty Civil Engineering and Geosciences Department Structural Engineering Programme Structural Mechanics Date 2015-05-20 Abstract The current calculation methods which determine the capacity of pinned connections provide different results. In this thesis a detailed look on those theories and the effect of different parameters is studied. Because it is hard to provide any conclusions about just comparing these theories also a FEM analysis is done. In this thesis the FEM model is discussed and a method is developed to analyze the FEM results. Finally some formulas are derived which predict the FEM results with an accuracy of 10%.
