Date 1994 Abstract Abstract of NL 9300816 (A) Described is a method of preparing a porous silicon carbide suitable for use as a catalyst or as a catalyst support. Porous carbon is provided with a catalyst which is suitable for catalysing gasification of carbon with hydrogen, and with a catalyst suitable for catalysing whisker growth of SiC, and the porous carbon laden with catalyst(s) is then allowed to react with a gaseous silicon compound formed under reaction conditions and with hydrogen.
