Up to now it is not known what is the real strength and stiffness behaviour of this sheet pile walls and when the dike with the construction can be considered to have failed. Nowadays an elastic design is applied for reinforcements with sheet pile walls, while for an anchored sheet pile wall for plastic design a redistribution of forces can take place in structure and surrounding soil which can lead to material savings. To have a deeper insight in this behaviour a full scale test is planned. In this master thesis the important variables that determine the magnitude of the bending moments in the sheet pile wall, size of the failure plane, magnitude of the load and other variables that are of importance have been studied. This has been done by a variation of parameters for a case at Fort Vuren near Gorinchem. Also the development of plastic hinges in the sheet pile wall has been studied.
