(mentor) Faculty Architecture and The Built Environment Department Architecture Programme Architectural Engineering Date 2014-06-26 Abstract The merging of building and landscape through the design of a smart sound barrier with integrated functions. The project is located in Utrecht and is dealing with the problems of insufficient housing, disappearing green areas, lack of connection between the city and its surroundings, and sound pollution caused by the A12 highway. In essence the result is a sustainable housing project that takes the form of a great hill that functions also as a sound barrier. The project also includes an innovative thermal energy storage system, making it practically autonomous in terms of heating.
