(mentor) Degree granting institution Delft University of Technology Programme Architecture, Urbanism and Building Sciences Project Genoa - Spaces of Accumulation Date 2019-07-15 Abstract Genoa is, and always has been, a fragmented city. This condition originates on the one hand in its physical location and on the other in the nature of the genovese people. This results in an urban archipelago: a combination of smaller patches of city, functioning on their own, as independent systems. This, in combination with a distinct demographic shrinkage, will result in programmatic vacuums within the urban fabric, with the Lagaccio valley being a prime example. The project explores the role architecture can play in the reprogramming of this valley, while staying adaptable to the unsure nature of its future and of the city itself.
