The graduation project deals with the effect of the spatial distribution of light towards product appearance evaluation. The results of this study indicate that light distribution does have an effect on product appearance evaluation. Diffused light significantly increased the evaluation of the overall hedonic dimension, the expressive values “symbolic and aesthetic” and the perceived utilitarian value “quality”. Furthermore, the diffused light condition significantly enhanced the purchase interest and the perceived novelty for products. In contrast, there was no evidence that the distribution of light affected the evaluation of products in terms of appearance, purchase interest nor perceived novelty of the appearance. Furthermore, no evidence was found that the perceived utilitarian values “Functionality and Ease of Use” were influenced by light distribution.
