Improving usability by making use of Additive Manufacturing

This thesis describes the case study of redesigning a complex unit within a production printer, the wet tissue wiper (WTW) unit. The goal of this redesign is to improve usability with the use of additive manufacturing. The current WTW unit had several problems with usability, handling and assembly. During the redesign process a thorough analysis has been performed. By analyzing the WTW unit on a more abstracted level the functionalities could be fulfilled with a more simple and user friendly design. This process shows that the increased complexity of individual parts which additive manufacturing allows provides a simpler overall design with less parts. The improved simplicity of the design benefits usability of the WTW unit.
